
It was yet another proud moment for India and particularly for ADIC-India when its Director Mr. Johnson J. Edayaranmula received the prestigious Asian Award for Outstanding Contribution in the field of Substance Abuse Prevention along with His Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse, Hon’ble President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The Awards were presented at a colorful function at the South Asian Conference on Substance Abuse Prevention in conjunction with the IOGT Regional Council Triennial General Assembly at Colombo, Sri Lanka in December 2005.
While, Mr. Johnson received the Award from H.E. the President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse, Mr. Sven Olov Carllson, IOGT International President presented the Award to His Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse. H.E. the President of Sri Lanka was nominated for the Award for his strong determination and commitment for initiating a 3 year Action Plan to combat the growing menace of Alcohol and other Substance Problem in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Johnson received the Award for his relentless work for the past 3 decades in formulating policies and implementing innovative programmes in the Region by co-ordinating Governmental and Non-Governmental efforts.
Several dignitaries including the Minister for Science & Technology Prof. Tissa Vetarana, Minister for Health Mr. Nimal Siripala De-Silva, Noted Buddhist Leader & Member of Parliament Ven. Omalpe Shobhita Thero, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mr. Karu Jayasooriya, Chief Minister of Western Province Mr. Reginald Curray, Forut Resident Representative Mr. Terje Heggerness, SAFSAP President Dr. Sisira Kodagoda and Secretary Mr. Srinivasa Vara Prasad participated in the Conference. |
