Alcohol & Drug Information Centre (ADIC)-India has organized a series of State Level Workshops on "the Scopes and Challenges in the Implementation of Substance Abuse Prevention Programmes in Kerala” since 1990 to 2006 involving all concerned State & Central Government Agencies, Voluntary Organizations & the Media for formulating an Action Plan for Substance Abuse Prevention & Control in the State. Separate Technical Sessions on Supply Reduction, Demand Reduction and Counselling, Treatment & Rehabilitation were organized involving subject experts in the respective fields. These workshops has facilitated in developing effective co-ordination in between Government Agencies as well between Government Agencies and Voluntary Organizations. Several recommendations have already been implemented during the past years.
State Government Agencies including the Police, Excise, Forest, Prisons, Health, Social Welfare, Education, Information & Public Relations, Drug Control, Chemical Examiners Laboratory and Forensic Science Laboratory; Central Government Agencies including the Narcotics Control Bureau, Central Excise and Customs, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Information & Broadcasting, Films Divisions, DAVP and the Publications Division; besides Representatives of Voluntary Organisations and the Media have made active contribution for the Master Plan for Kerala. As an outcome of these State Level Workshops separate recommendations under three specific categories have been formulated. The Major Recommendations are compiled and has been published under the title “Substance Abuse Prevention & Control : A Master Plan for Kerala”.
